Depression and anxiety
Symptoms of depression and anxiety often occur in tandem and develop in relation to other problems such as relationship difficulties, or unresolved trauma and pain. Both respond well to psychotherapy. The experience of being truly heard and understood can bring relief.
Depression - if you have experienced the following symptoms for more than two consecutive weeks, it is important you seek assistance:
- Feeling worthless
- Withdrawal from family and friends
- Chronic tiredness
- Difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much
- Thinking negatively – “I’m a failure”, I’m always wrong”, “My life's not worth living”
- Feeling overwhelmed, guilty, irritable, disappointed or unhappy
- A reliance on alcohol, sedatives or other substances
- Significant weight gain or loss
Anxiety can manifest in the following ways:
- Unable to stop worrying
- Difficulty doing everyday activities like work, study, seeing friends and family
- Feeling restless or constantly on edge
- Being easily tired
- Having trouble sleeping
- Having difficulty concentrating
- Feeling irritable
- Having muscle pain, such as a sore jaw or back
